Collection overview

The Health Studies collection provides material of relevance to the library’s social science and humanities collections.

Coverage includes:

• Diseases: AIDS
• Ethical aspects: medical ethics, abortion, euthanasia
• Food and nutrition
• Health care: NHS, hospitals
• Nervous system
• Public health: health promotion, pollution
• Social aspects: medical sociology, social medicine
• Sports psychology

There is also a core collection of general medical journals including the BMJ, Lancet and Social Science and Medicine.

Collection location:
• Most books are located on the 7th Floor
• All items available on open access will display the location HEALTH STUDIES, eg HEALTH STUDIES 7th Floor (3) HTQ Bro
• Recent issues of periodicals are on display bays in the Periodicals Room, 4th floor
• Large books are shelved in a separate sequence - indicated by the prefix ‘f’ or ‘folio’, before the location code
• Some items are held in the closed access stacks. These will display the location Stack Service. Please request stack items through the online catalogue
• To locate individual titles use the online catalogue
