Government Publications

Finding References

When you have found a reference see Government Publications classmarks for more information about locating and requesting items.

There are a number of sources to help identify the existence and full bibliographic details of government publications. These sources have differing coverage. Consequently it is sometimes necessary to search all/several of the sources in order to establish the bibliographic details of an item. To help trace the item within the Library you will need to take careful note of details such as year of session and type of document (eg 1997, Command Paper) and any volume numbers cited.

When item of interest is found, note the Session number, Paper number and Volume number eg 1865 (131) xxxi, and then take this information to the Stack Desk. Page references are not always usable as our bound volumes may be single publications bound together in which case they will not have the right sequence of page numbers.
