Collection overview
The collection covers all aspects of Film and Media Studies, particular strengths are:
- Historical, critical and biographical coverage of European, U.S., Latin American and some Asian cinema
- Film theory and criticism, aesthetics and practical aspects of filmmaking such as screenwriting and film production
- General media and television studies
- The history of journalism, newspapers and periodicals
- Historical, critical and theoretical coverage of the theatre
- Performance art and theory
Collection location
- Film theory and criticism books are located in the FILM and MEDIA collection on the 5th floor
- Material about film and media is also located within the area collections of Latin American Studies and United States Studies
- Recent issues of periodicals are on display bays in the Periodicals Room - 4th floor. Many older periodicals are held in the closed access stacks. These will display the location Stack Service. Please request at the Stack Service desk on the 4th floor

DVD Collection
Over 800 films and operas are available on DVD, these include films from Europe (including Russia), the US, Latin America and Asia, from early silent cinema to the present day.
To find out which DVDs are available you can search the online catalogue:
- Select 'keyword: advanced' from the main catalogue menu
- Enter the title or director in the search box
- Select FILM/VIDEO from the 'Material Type' drop-down menu
- Click on the 'Submit' button

DVDs are obtained from the Information Centre (4th floor) and can be viewed on any of the library’s 50 workstations. Click here for the rules and regulations
