The collection covers all areas of archaeology, and is particularly strong in British Archaeology

The Rapid Reference section can be found adjacent to the History periodicals – this includes dictionaries, handbooks and guides to place names

Collection location

  • Many Archaeology books are located on the 6th floor
  • All Archaeology books available on open access in the History collection will display the location ARCHAEOLOGY, with the classmark prefix 63 eg ARCHAEOLOGY 6th floor (63) LAD Loc
  • Most periodicals are shelved in a separate alphabetical sequence of History and Archaeology periodicals next to the books in the History collection. See the: A-Z list of SHL History journals and A-Z list of SHL History e-journals
  • Recent issues of periodicals are on display bays in the Periodicals Room – 4th floor. For more information on finding journals, see our journals resources page>
  • Some items are held in the closed access stacks. These will display the location Stack Service. Please request at the Stack Service desk on the 4th floor
  • To locate individual titles use the online catalogue
