Prothero Collection
The Prothero Collection is a collection of around 1,100 pamphlets in 93 boxes and bound volumes collected by the historian and sometime President of the Royal Historical Society Sir George Prothero (1848-1922), and donated to the Library by the Royal Historical Society in 1935. The pamphlets relate primarily to the social, economic and political history of England and Europe during the period 1880-1914. They include several volumes of ecclesiastical pamphlets with an Anglican emphasis, as well as groups of pamphlets on specific themes such as Vatican decrees, Irish home rule, Toynbee Hall appointments, women suffrage and university reform.
The Prothero Collection complements other pamphlet collections held in
Senate House Library, including those in Goldsmiths'
Library of Economic Literature, the Family
Welfare Association Library and the Ron
Heisler Collection . Much of the collection has yet to be recorded
on the main catalogue, but is accessible on the online
card catalogue.
