Pott Collection
Constance Mary Fearon Pott (1833-1915), who wrote under the name Mrs
Henry Pott, was a supporter of the theory that Sir Francis Bacon wrote
the works of Shakespeare, indeed, her convictions led her to become a
founder of the Bacon Society (now known as the Francis Bacon Society)
in 1885. Miss C. Pott, her daughter, made a donation of books, pamphlets
and archive material to the Library from her mother's collection in 1953.
A portion of the books were incorporated into the general library, and
early editions added to the Durning-Lawrence Library.
The archive material consists
of manuscripts and press cuttings.
Pott's works included: Did
Francis Bacon Write "Shakespeare"? (London, [1884])
and Francis
Bacon and his Secret Society: An Attempt to Collect and Unite the Lost
Links of a Long and Strong Chain (London, 1891)
