Manton Marble

Press cuttings, c 1000 pamphlets and 53 scrapbooks from the collection of the journalist Manton Marble (1834-1917). The collection deals with political and economic aspects of the United States (1860-1910), concentrating on the bi-metallist currency controversy. Manton Marble was appointed special envoy to the governments of Great Britain, France and Germany in 1885 to explore the possibility of adopting international bi-metallism. A description of this deposit forms part of the archives catalogue. Hard copy finding aids to the pamphlets are also available in Special Collections.
