The Eliot-Phelips Collection Project

Events and exhibitions

In 1998 Senate House Library held its first exhibition of items from the Eliot-Phelips Collection, entitled Grandeurs of Spain. The exhibition was supported by the Cultural Office of the Spanish Embassy and by King's College London. The exhibition was opened by the Ambassador of Spain, His Excellency Don Alberto Aza Arias, at a private view and reception on March 9th.

A symposium in celebration of the collection, sponsored by Senate House Library, the Institute of Romance Studies of the University of London, and the Department of Spanish and Spanish-American Studies of King's College London, took place in the School of Advanced Studies, on Monday 9th March, 2.00 pm-5.30 pm. The symposium was chaired by Professor Barry Ife, Cervantes Professor of Spanish, King's College London; the speakers included Professor David Hook (King's College London), Professor Trevor Dadson (University of Birmingham), Geoff West (British Library), Barry Taylor (British Library), and Patricia Noble (Senate House Library).
