The collection is rich in research materials relevant to the cultural, social and economic history of Spain (particularly Madrid), and complements the Goldsmiths' Library of Economic Literature. Many of the early items are also of importance in the history of Spanish book production. An informal sampling undertaken in 1995 revealed several items not held by the British Library. It may well be one of the first collections of antiquarian Spanish material to be made widely available via the Internet.
