Eggar Collection

This collection of c.250 books and 27 boxes of manuscripts, was bequeathed to the Library in 1962 by Katherine Eggar (1909-1961). The contents relate to the Shakespearean authorship controversy and the attribution of Shakespeare's plays to Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford (1550-1604).

Katherine Eggar was the author of the pamphlets Shakespeare in His True Colours (1951) and The Unlifted Shadow (1954)
The manuscripts are listed on AIM25 and include the research carried out by Katherine Eggar on the life of Edward de Vere, in preparation for a book in which she was to propose him as the true author of Shakespeare's plays.

This collection complements the Durning-Lawrence Library.
