Booking a study carrel
Eligible researchers can book study carrels at Senate House Library. The cost is £10.00 per week. Payment is made in advance when the carrel is booked. Eligible Library usersPriority is given to:
University of London academic staff and students registered for PHD/MPhil degrees from the University of London may book a study carrel for up to three months at a time. Other eligible library users
University of London masters students and University of London undergraduate students in their final year of study may book a carrel for up to one week at a time if vacancies permit. What the study carrels offer
Making a bookingBookings can be taken over the phone by calling 020 7862 8437 or in person at the Circulation Desk, 4th Floor, South Block. Payment is taken in advance, when the carrel is booked. Collect your study carrel key from the Circulation Desk, 4th Floor, South Block, Senate House on the day your carrel occupancy begins. CostThe cost for hiring a carrel is £10 per week. Users may book continuous periods of up to three months at a time. Carrel occupants must pay for the period they require in advance. Thereafter users must continuously pay rental fees for the full length of the renewal period, in advance. PaymentPayment must be made in person at the Circulation Desk, 4th floor, South Block, Senate House using credit card, debit card or cash when the booking is made - we regret that cheques cannot be accepted. Carrel loans charges are non-refundable. All costs include VAT at 20%. Study carrel loan: £10.00 per week (up to a maximum of three months at a time for University of London academic staff and University of London PHD/MPhil students, payment taken in advance at each re/booking). Carrel keysEach carrel occupant should return their key to the Circulation desk on the 4th floor, South Block, Senate House on or before the final day of rental. Study carrel users without a key will not be able to use their carrel. In addition, if a replacement key needs to be made users will not be able to use their carrel while the key is being cut. Loss of a carrel key will incur a £20 non-refundable fine. Ending your carrel occupancy

Desk view: concealed desk lights provide a bright, diffused light. The floor box houses electrical plugs and network points. The angled surface in front of desk is designed for resting books against. There is ample storage space available above the desk.
The other side of the carrel (behind the desk) offers storage space for research folders, notebooks and Library books. Each carrel has a window with natural light available. |
