ACCESS

Membership of the Institute is available free of charge to staff and postgraduate students of EU universities and of other foreign universities which subscribe to its Annual Payments Scheme.  A fee is payable by other individuals.  All users are asked to register individually.  Forms can be filled in on the spot.  Day tickets are issued to members of the public (including University of London undergraduates) who wish to consult material not otherwise available in London.  No borrowing is allowed.  Rooms are sometimes closed for meetings; visitors are advised to telephone in advance to confirm that stock is accessible.

SPECIAL COLLECTIONS OR STRENGTHS

The library collects printed primary sources, bibliographies, guides to archives, periodicals and reference works covering the history of Western Europe and its expansion overseas from the fall of the Roman Empire.  It does not normally collect secondary monographs.

ADDITIONAL FACILITIES

Self-service photocopying.  Microform readers and printer.  Networked electronic resources and printing. Hot and cold drinks, lunches and teas in Common Room.  Introductory talks are available by arrangement.
