On-line computer catalogue available in Library and remotely via web site with searches by author/artist, title, keyword, place and subject. Includes analytics for London articles in serials on a selective basis. Many items from the Print Room Collection are also recorded on the COLLAGE image database.
Special London classification for inner London area: Dewey for other areas (printed books).
189,000 books, 1170 cubic metres of archives (around) 100,000 units, 147,000 graphic items, 15,000 microforms.
London history in all its aspects is the core interest of the library with other special collections including business history, historic trade directories, historic English law reports, British parliamentary papers and statutes, Lloyd’s marine collection, clock and watch making, food and wine, John Wilkes, Samuel Pepys, Sir Thomas More and Charles Lamb (printed books).
Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section is the local record office for the City of London apart from the archives of the City of London Corporation itself which are separately administered by London Metropolitan Archives. Particular strengths include City wards, parishes and over 80 of its livery companies, the Diocese of London and St Paul’s Cathedral, organisations which originated in the City like Christ’s Hospital School, Bridewell, and Trinity House, businesses and commercial bodies, including Lloyd’s of London and the London Stock Exchange and numerous banks, insurance companies, stockbrokers, etc
Photocopying. Substantial publishing programme with bookshop at library. Fee-based service available for lengthy research.
