A Pratchett Preview

Author and Artist

Terry Pratchett's first published novel was The Carpet People (Gerrards Cross: Colin Smythe, 1971). A launch party was held in the carpet department of Heal's store in Tottenham Court Road, London. The Carpet People received few reviews, but those few were ecstatic, with it being described as being 'of quite extraordinary quality' (Teacher's World) and 'a new dimension in imagination ... the prose is beautiful' (The Irish Times).

The book jacket and all the illustrations in the book are by the author, and in a very few copies, probably less than 6, Terry Pratchett hand-coloured the full-page illustrations. Each full-page is coloured in a particular hue - for example, there is a blue page, a purple page, and a red page. This page shows the yellow tones.
