Craig Collection
The Library's holdings constitute around 500 printed books from the collection of Alec Craig (Alexander George Craig, 1897-1973), donated to the Library by his widow in 1974. Alec Craig was the author of The Banned Books of England (1937) and the revised edition entitled The Banned Books of England and Other Countries (1962).
Craig was interested more generally in sexual behaviour and reform, and was also engaged with the socialist movement. He also published Sex and Revolution (1934), several volumes of poetry and contributed to works on sexual behaviour.
The collection comprises mainly early to mid 20th century books in English, French and German on sexual customs and practices, with some works on literary and artistic erotica. As yet, the collection is uncatalogued.
There is a small archive associated with the collection. This has been described as part of the online archives catalogue.
