Schedule of charges for permission to copy

The Library follows general practice in charging for the use of material from its collection for commercial publication in facsimile, and for illustrations, plates, manuscript or similar material to be used to illustrate published works.

Introduction and explanatory notes

  • Reproduction fees are additional to payments for photocopying and digital reproductions and are payable in advance before permission to reproduce the material can be given.
  • Acknowledgement of Senate House Library must be made for this permission to reproduce the work/s, in the form, Senate House Library, University of London, with the appropriate citation to the document reproduced.
  • Permission to reproduce applies only to one particular publication, production or instance, and does not include and cannot be extended to reprints or new editions.
  • VAT at the prevailing rate is charged on all UK orders.
  • Photocopying and digital reproduction normally takes place in Senate House Library. Digital reproduction is undertaken on researchers’ behalf by Library staff.  Researchers may not use any form of personal digital copying device, such as a scanner or mobile telephone.  See here for further information on our photocopying, reprographic and document delivery services.
  • Where permission is granted for reproduction, a copy of the published work in whatever format – eg, book, periodical, part-work, CD-ROM, video, DVD, website, microfilm – must be supplied to Senate House Library within one calendar month of the publication date.
